The 2014 engineering counselling is about to get started.
At this time of the year, informations report that only very few new colleges will be opened this year.
Sources reported that ANNA UNIVERSITY has received only a few enquiries regarding the opening of new enginnering colleges.
Until now, only 6 colleges have asked thier quieries about the certificaton details for their college.
Last year, only 4 to 5 colleges applied for certificaton. But, due to lack of certain basic features those colleges were denied certification.
This year, due to the nearing date of student counselling, only 10 colleges have shown interest in obtaining certification for their college.
In TAMILNADU engineering colleges, only the government and ANNA UNIVERSITY has to decide upon their certification after completely surveying thier standards.
The colleges with worst standards will be denied thier certification and opening. For now, only a 100 engineering colleges are coming out for sale. Hence this being the situation, more number of new colleges cannot be expected.
Colleges with worst standards affects mostly students who come from rural areas for their studies.
In TAMILNADU, an average of 3 lakh engineering seats is open at present. Every year, more than 8 lakh students finish their schooling and enter college studies.
For the past few years, there has been a consistent increase in the number of empty seats being left behind in students counselling.
