A new plan which facilitates students who are pursuing their engineering courses in other colleges to study in IIT for a specific period of time is due to be introduced in the current academic year 2014-15.
To put this plan into action IIT has decided to establish an understanding agreement with the National Institute of Technology (NIT) situated in TRICHY.
An assembly gathered in IIT on Wednesday (March to grant this law. Soon IIT has decided to sign this agreement of understanding with the selected other educational institutions. The DEAN of IIT (RESEARCH) SARITH.K.DAS quoted that under this plan, this agreement is only to be arranged with NIIT TRICHY initially. Subsequently, this agreement shall be conducted also with NIT situated in KARNATAKA STATE, MANGALORE SOORATHKAL PART; NIT situated in KERALA, KOZHIKODE PART; NIT situated in ANDHRA VAARANGAL PART.
Also, this agreement is also to be conducted between STATE GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGES such as GUINDY ENGINEERING COLLEGE and also other private engineering colleges. If this agreement comes into action, engineering students who have completed up to their 3rd year in their selected engineering colleges will then be able to continue their 4th year in IIT. For these students special loan will also be arranged from IIT. Students who complete their course successfully will be awarded their B.E or B.TECH scholarships by their respective colleges. For getting their scholarships these students will be sent back to their respective institutions. But, after getting their scholarships students with outstanding performance in their academics can join IIT again to pursue direct research studies (PH.D) along with special loan and scholarship facilities.
These types of plans are introduced to encourage research and its facilities in the country, the DEAN added.
