Tamilnadu 10th and 12th exam starting time change details and other updates

The Government of Tamil Nadu has announced the commencing dates of tenth and twelfth standard examinations yesterday here in Chennai. Hereby, the exams are scheduled to commence on March 3 & March 26th respectively. The dates have been announced prior to the announcement of details regarding the total of students who will be sitting these examinations this year. Considering the preparations for the public examinations being carried out simultaneously, the dates were expected to be announced anytime. The twelfth standard public examinations are scheduled from March 3rd to March 25th in Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry.

10th standard board examinations are scheduled from March 26th to April 9th. The Board of Directors for Examinations earlier decided to conduct both 10th and 12th exams simultaneously. But, foreseeing the problems that might arise, the board decided to leave the idea and stick to the usual way of conducting these exams individually and made the official announcement yesterday.

To facilitate a good preparation time for the students, sufficient amount of gap has been given in between exams this year. Only language exams have been scheduled consecutively for twelfth standard students. Whereas mathematics, chemistry and biology exams have been given a interval of 2 to 3 days each.

The public practical exams will be starting by February for +2 students.

10th standard board examinations commence from March 26th to April 9th with sufficient intervals in between mathematics, science and social science exams. English II paper is on April 2nd, after a day interval mathematic exam will be conducted on April 4th. Science exam is conducted on April 7th after 2 days interval.

The details of the number of students who will be sitting these examinations this year is not released yet. The department of examinations has given 10th of this month as deadline for the completion of this procedure to the Chief Educational officers. The list of the number of centers allotted for the exams has also not been finalized and announced.

It is expected that the total poll of +2 examinees this year may rise to 8.5lakhs compared to 7.99lakhs last year. Likewise, the 10th standard examinees count is approximately estimated to rise by 40,000 this year along with the 10.51lakhs count last year. The Directory of Examinations has looked into the progress and completion of all these works regarding the examinations to avoid any problems that might arise later.


Usually both 10thand 12thstandard exams begin at 10am. The first 15 minutes will be allotted for question paper reading to facilitate good understanding of each question for the student and also for his/her to fill in the relevant details in the answer sheet. The students shall start answering at 10:15am.

Likewise, the +2 board examination is conducted from 10:15am to 1:15pm.10th board examinations are conducted usually from 10:15am to 12:45pm. But this time, the secretary of school examinations, Sabitha, has announced a change of timing as in 10th board examinations to be conducted 1 hour prior the usual timings- from 9:15am to 12:00pm.

The students will be allotted a total time of 2 ½ hours for answering the questions from 9:30am to 12:00pm. The exam authorities have said the reason for this change in timings to be as the sun scorching through the sky in April.
